T Fondaco dei Tedeschi: a bridge between the past and the future

The Fondaco dei Tedeschi is a historic building flanked by the Rialto Bridge. The building was built around 1200 as a place of trade mainly dedicated to merchants who came to Venice from Northern Europe. It was destroyed twice by fires, then rebuilt in the sixteenth century, before being transformed into a Customs office during the Napoleonic period. It remained a Post Office until the beginning of the 2000s when it was closed and subsequently bought by the Benetton family, who began refurbishment and restoration works with the architect Rem Koolhaas. Upon completion the building was rented to the DFS group which transformed it into the T Fondaco dei Tedeschi, the first Travel Retail Store of DFS in Europe.

The architect Rem Koolhaas has restored the T Fondaco dei Tedeschi, bringing it back to its former glory. He carried out a philological renovation, paying great attention to the restoration of what was recoverable of the historic building. But the most important intervention concerns the realization of the fourth floor, which was not a part of the original building, and which is now used to organize cultural events.

The well-being of guests in a luxury commercial building like this is very important. In such a well-tended and historical context, technology must exist but must have an almost zero impact on the environment. In this case there are two NECS-WQ/S 0512 multi-purpose heat pumps, Climaveneta branded, with geothermal source, which have no visual or acoustical impact on the outside of the building and which guarantee small installation and maintenance spaces. An additional NECS-CN/B/S 0612 reversible air water heat pump Climaveneta branded was also installed, to respond to any seasonal peak demands. Since the systems are installed in a marine environment, the heat pumps have been supplied with special copper-coated exchange coils, which are resistant to the aggressiveness of salt.

Modernization of Schiphol’s
Data Center

Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems, though its brand RC, has supplied the IT cooling system for a data center at Schipol Airport. The datacenter operator acquired the datacenter in April 2016, with the intent to bring it up to date and to enlarge the available floor space. The datacenter operator additionally wanted to revise and re-install the entire cooling system with the aim of achieving a low PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and thus significantly reducing energy costs in terms of cooling. At the same time, they wanted to increase the power density per square meter to between 1.6 and 1.8 kW for greater efficiency.

MEHITS is glad to introduce new i-FX-W(1+i)-G05 range, water cooled units with 1+i logics that combines fixed speed and variable speed screw compressors, R513A low GWP refrigerant and flooded evaporator, thus ensuring continuous modulation of loads and a perfect leaving water stability.

With i-FX-W(1+i)-G05 MEHITS enlarge its proposal of High efficiency unit with low GWP refrigerant reducing together direct and indirect global warming effect of its units.
